- Adults age 65 and older
- Adults with chronic health conditions like asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or cancer
- Young children
- During pregnancy
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need insurance to get a flu shot with Morrow County Public Health? What does it cost?
No. Please bring your insurance card. We will bill insurance to cover the costs of the shots, but there should be no cost to you with Oregon Health Plan, Medicare, or private insurance. If you are uninsured, we can give you a flu shot at no cost to you through a state program.
Can I get sick from a flu shot?
You can’t get the flu from a flu shot because the flu vaccines either use dead flu virus or one protein from the flu virus to train your immune system to fight the flu.
After a flu shot, you may have mild side effects, such as some aches or a little fever, for a couple of days. This is a sign that your immune system is learning how to fight off the flu virus. These side effects will always be milder than flu symptoms.
Can I still get the flu after I get a flu shot?
Getting the flu shot reduces your chance of getting sick, but yes, some people still catch the flu even after they get their flu shot. Being vaccinated helps flu symptoms like fatigue and diarrhea stay milder, and lowers your chance of being hospitalized or having serious complications like ear infection, pneumonia, sepsis, asthma attacks, or chronic health conditions like heart disease getting worse.
