PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT

July 19, 2024

There is an air quality advisory for southern Morrow County due to smoky, unhealthy air from wildfires, through Monday. Smoky air from fires can irritate the eyes and lungs and worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people.Protect your health by staying inside and wearing an N95 mask outside.

Morrow County Public Health has free N95 masks at each of our three clinics. Please know that the masks we have are expired. As a result, the mask may have a loose or leaky fit. Wearing an expired mask can still protects you from smoky air.

Putting on the mask and checking the fit is the best way to know if the mask is working as it should: Gently place your hands on the N95 mask, covering as much of it as possible, then breathe out. If you feel air leaking out from the edges of the mask, or if you are wearing glasses and they fog up, it is not snug. Adjust the mask and try again. If it still doesn’t work, try a different mask.

During the unhealthy air quality and smoke from the Lone Rock Fire, Morrow County Public Health has decided it is better to offer these masks to our community members who may have no other mask to use.

There are also evacuation alerts for a southwestern area of the county due to the Lone Rock Fire. Please keep checking online or listening to the radio for evacuation information. Sign up to get emergency alerts sent to your phone and email at ORalert.gov

The mission of Morrow County Public Health is to Protect, Connect and Thrive. We work in many different areas to protect and support people’s health at the community level.

We have three clinics, located in Boardman, Heppner and Ione. These are public health clinics, where we provide access to health services that benefit the community and that people may not be able to get elsewhere. Our nurses provide immunizations (vaccines), STI testing, birth control and more. All the clinic services we provide are listed on the Clinic Services page.

Please note that Morrow County Public Health is not a primary care provider. We don’t have a doctor on staff and don’t provide primary care like diagnosing an illness or prescribing medications.

Is Morrow County Public Health the same as the Morrow County Health District?

No. Morrow County Public Health is a department of county government. We are overseen by a  Health Officer and by the Oregon Health Authority.

The Morrow County Health District is a separate organization that provides primary healthcare, hospital services and urgent care services. We do communicate with the Health  District and partner together on some community health issues.
