Road Issues

Big Thaw

When gravel roads get frost 6" to 12" deep and a thaw happens,   the mud comes to the surface and the gravel goes down, they call this pumping.   This happens every spring to some degree.  Nothing can be done to fix this it just takes a few days of drying out.  Then new rock can be added and road can be bladed all better until next time.   For those of you new to rural gravel roads just a fact of life.  for those who have lived around this all of your lives remember last year?
Paved roads can break up under heavy loads if water has penetrated into them from cracks and or potholes.  just a fact when you just cannot wait a couple days to haul that heavy load.
