Position Title: Parks Temporary Youth Laborer

Department: Public Works

Supervisor: Morrow County Parks General Manager

 

Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Parks General Manager and upon his absence the Park Ranger, the temporary Youth Laborer performs a variety of maintenance tasks throughout the three (3) County Parks.  This position is grant funded.  If funding ceases, this position may be vacated.

The temporary Laborer will be responsible for following safety standards while assisting in the many projects it takes to keep the Parks System operating and in good condition.

The temporary Youth Employee will be responsible for the documenting all maintenance materials used, and will provide a daily activity log to Parks General Manager or Park Ranger to keep them informed of activities completed or not completed. 

The temporary Youth Laborer will work on any and all construction projects or maintenance projects as directed and may be asked to work alone, with other employees or with volunteer help and will be required to complete quality work.  

The position is 40 hours per week.  This position requires a driver’s license, the ability to follow directions, to work alone or in a team environment, and to make safe and respectful decisions during the course of their assignments. 

Working Environment: Work is performed at the Morrow County Parks. Work is performed without regard to weather conditions. Lifting heavy objects is an integral part of this position. 

Qualifications:          

1.         Valid Driver’s License

2.         Knowledge, ability and skill to problem solve with a team or Camp patron.

3.         Ability to handle a variety of tasks as requested

4.         Ability to complete manual labor duties

5          Ability to operate hand tools such as shovel, rake, hammer, broom, ax, saw, pruning shears.

6.         Desire to help others.

7.         Desire to work in camping and recreation areas with campers and co-workers.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Physical:

Ability to lift up 50 pounds or more with or without a team member on a frequent basis.
Ability to walk on all terrain, in all weather conditions.
This position includes outdoor work in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity are essential.
Ability to operate motorized vehicles.
Regular and predictable attendance.

Mental:

Ability to speak, read and comprehend English.
Ability to read and comprehend instruction and maintenance manuals.
Ability to communicate with Park patrons in a calm and professional manner during occasionally stressful situations.

 

Job Duty Outline:

I.          Park Maintenance

            A.         Perform daily maintenance around camp areas, as needed.

            B.         Assist in trail maintenance.

            C.        Be prepared to respond to any emergency involving trail maintenance in a timely                                     manner when directed by a supervisor.

            D.        Perform trail maintenance such as pruning and trimming small tree and brush.

 

II.         Park Operations.

            A.         Work closely with the Parks General Manager and Park Ranger and assist when needed                             in the care of all Parks campgrounds.

            B.         Perform scheduled trail improvements as weather and conditions permit.

            C.        perform safe operations of hand tools.
